Anime Songs that you didn’t know were Covers!

So everyone always have their favorite voice cast and composing soundtracks for a show they like, and it seems to me using Seiyuus (Voice actors/actresses) and pop stars to make music for Anime seems quite to be popular among Otakus. The songs they provide are great and provide satisfaction for the fans to love, but does it ring a bell where the lyrics come from? People commonly mistake the anime versions as original music instead of knowing where song originally come from. Though it does make me feel frustrated that the Anime soundtrack and whatever group they use get more credit of song than the original classic from once they came from, also not given credit. Well then, I shall show some good tunes from Animes, that you didn’t know were covers.

P.S: This post is not meant to degrade an Anime series or a Studio.

First Anime, I want to show is the ending theme song for Maria†Holic. The song playing is called “Kimi ni Mune Kyun” performed by Yuu Kobayashi, Asami Sanada, and Marina Inoue.

The song is very good and it has catchy tune with a nice chorus. I enjoyed listening to three Seiyuus from the anime itself to do a cover song for the show. They did a good job, their voices were great, the song has this electro like and pop like tune and pretty addictive to listen too.

So since you’ve seen the Cover version, now I will show the original version

The original Kimi ni Mune Kyun by YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra)

To be honest, I was very surprise to find out that this is the original song they covered this from. I couldn’t help but laugh but it was very catchy and sounded like song you would slow dance with your girlfriend too. This is also a pretty catchy and a good song. For a song that seems like it came from the 80’s or early 90’s it still lives up.

Next up….

From a recent airing Anime that you may know, AnoHana a.k.a Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae Bokutachi wa Mada Shirinai, the ending theme “Secret Base” was a cover a pretty known Idol band back in 90’s called Zone. I think they picked a really good song for theme of AnoHana. I think it really relates to the story and emotion of the anime and the characters. The cover sung by: Ai Kayano, Haruka Tomatsu, and Saori Hayami was one of the best I’ve ever heard. Their voices were synced nicely and it sounded beautiful, one of my favorite covers ever.

The AnoHana ending theme using Secret Base by Zone.

Here’s the Original version by Zone, as you can see the Cover just does good as the Original and the Seiyuu have the same perfect pitch and tone as they do. The original song is great and one of the best by Zone. It was one of the song they chose after they disbanded in 2001 and now reunited today.

Well that’s the surprise of the week! If you know anything songs in anime that are covers or cover from another anime song, just let me know in the comments down below!

One Response to Anime Songs that you didn’t know were Covers!

  1. I actually like the covers over the original (in the case of these two songs), but that’s still interesting to know that they’re not the originals, especially the maria holic song, that threw me off guard.
